Proposal Errata

On page 6 of the document, the Testing and Evaluation section currently reads:

The team will develop a series of cases to evaluate their design. The cases should consider:

When designing the sensing system, the team will have to consider all of the above conditions. Especially important will be the room lighting levels, viewer distance, and ambient temperature. This is because many sensors utilize thermal radiation for operation.

Upon further consideration, the above section has been revised as follows:

The team will develop a series of tests to evaluate their design. These tests will assume nominal room temperature and standard diffuse room lighting. However, if time permits, we would like to consider the following situations:

To further clarify the goals of the project, the primary and bonus goals are outlined below:

Primary Goals

  1. The system should have 10 degrees of tracking accuracy.
  2. Sensors should be able to sense a viewer within 2 metres and with a sensing range of 135 degrees.
  3. The platform should be able to achieve a rotation of 180 degrees.

Bonus Goals

  1. Remote control to be used by the viewer to override the system.
  2. Platform can be physically adjusted by the viewer.
  3. Consider multiple viewers when determining an ideal viewing position.
  4. Adjust the volume of the television based on the distance of the viewer(s) from the television.
